Gap Travel Guatemala
Guatemala is famous for two things in particular…the amazing ruins in Tikal, and the beautiful ancient city of Antigua, the old capital. Gap Travel is cheap here, but the buses and roads are in poor condition.
Gap Travellers should avoid spending too much time in the capital, Guatemala City, as it is not especially safe. Rather, gappers are advised to head straight to Antigua from the airport. Again, if you do not speak Spanish, when you arrive on your gap year, enrol in a language course for a few weeks and stay with a host family.
Volunteering here on your gap travels would be extremely worthwhile, especially among the indigenous peoples who are desperately poor.
